School of Theology

Nikos Maggioros is a Professor at the School of Theology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, specializing in “Canon and Ecclesiastical Law”.

He studied at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and at the Pontifical University of Lateran in Rome.
He teaches Orthodox Canon Law, Sources of Canon Law, Comparative Canon Law, Ecclesiastical Law, Church-State Relations in Greece and in the European Union, Religion and Human Rights.

He has organised and participated in various conferences and research projects on the dialogue between Christians, the relationship between religion and state, religon and  human rights,  religion, culture and sustainable development and the protection of religious heritage.

He was coordinator of the European Thematic Network on European Studies on the Interaction between Religion and State – EuReSIS Net and of the Working Group “Theology – Study of Religion” of the European Programme Sectoral Qualification Framework for the Humanities and the Arts (Tuning).

He participates in various Committees of the School of Theology and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, which have as their object the cooperation with other Universities, the European research projects. He also participates in various committees of the Church of Greece. Since 2020 he is the Director of the Postgraduate Programme “Religion, Geopolitics and Global Security” and Head  of the School  of Theology.
